10 mistakes to avoid when cleaning the house
Cleaning the house involves issues that many people do not even know. In the quest to get rid of dirt quickly and efficiently, mistakes are made and irreversible problems happen. The use of steel sponges, for example, on metal surfaces is not recommended by experts and manufacturers, as the abrasive product can ruin the materials.
The famous mix of various products, a real “chemical bomb” that housewives create to cleanse should also be avoided. Such a bet is dangerous and, in most cases, inefficient. Combinations like soap powder and chlorine do not work because the elements neutralize.
Before starting the cleaning the most indicated is if you plan. Common misleading can be avoided when the characteristics of the premises to be cleaned are known. Therefore, it is necessary to know exactly what types of coatings and materials will be present in the environments.
1 – Ignore the danger of steel wool
It is essential to remember that steel wool rust. Cleaning with this kind of material needs to be very cautious so there is no damage. If we leave lint on the white marble, there will be no return and the surface will be damaged. The question is the same in cleaning frames, because the rust will destroy the metal.
2 – Do not follow the correct order in the cleaning
Another common misconception is to start cleaning the floor and move on to the rest of the environment. The ideal is to clean from top to bottom – that is, start with fans and lights and then reach walls and furniture, ending on the floor. Important: Be sure to wipe from the bottom toward the door.
3 – Using “multipurpose” products improperly
The fame of so-known “multipurpose” must be understood carefully in the cleaning. Such products should only be used on washable surfaces such as ceramics, walls and plastic surfaces. Do not apply them to surfaces such as woods, metals and dowels.
4 – Use laundry soap on floors
The product may even look harmless, but it is not. It has extremely alkaline formulas, acidity compatible with that of caustic soda, and causes corrosion on the floor if used frequently. The surface will look clean, but micro holes will be created that will accumulate dirt. “We often see marble and granite floors without that spark of new age,” says cleaning specialist.
5 – Clean different environments with the same cloth
The problem of cleaning the house using the same cloth is the distribution of the bacteria. Spaces of intense fat – the kitchen, for example – have typical microorganisms that should not be present in other environments.
6 – Indiscriminate use of disinfectants
Investing in the product while cleaning the floor of any home environment is a mistake. Disinfectants need to be restricted. The concept of disinfection is necessary in places where we touch with our hands. The floor must be cleaned with neutral detergent and not necessarily disinfected.
7 – Little care in alcohol and chlorine use
Alcohol should not be used on rubberized surfaces as it will stiffen materials, and the application must occur at least three times over the same location. Chlorine is extremely corrosive and must be avoided on metal surfaces (such as stainless steel and iron).
8 – Watering plants after washing the floor
It may seem unimportant, but the water coming from the vases ends up staining the floor and the damage even causes rust on the coverings.
9 – Mix light and colored clothes in the wash
It is very important to separate the clothes according to their shades – dark and light (white and beige), in order to avoid possible irreversible stains. The cleaning efficiency can be improved by leaving the clothes soaked in the powdered soap.
10 – Wash underwear next to towels
Laundry should also consider aspects such as the presence of bacteria. Thus, towels and underwear should be washed separately to avoid contamination.
